The lowdown

LR Padel Club is the padel side of Atherton Laburnum Rovers FC, built into Crilly Park right next to the football pitch. It opened in August 2025 after three locals, Scott, Davis and Freddie, tired of driving into Manchester to play, took the idea to club chairman Shaun Lynch. There are now four covered courts by the ground, and the club's first-team manager Dave Jones works there in the week alongside his coaching.

The four courts are covered and floodlit, so rain and dark evenings aren't a problem, though it isn't confirmed whether they're fully enclosed. This is a community club first and a padel venue second, so expect a football-club feel with a cafeteria and changing rooms shared with the football setup rather than a polished dedicated clubhouse. That's part of the charm as much as a drawback.

It suits players in Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley and west Bolton who'd rather not drive into the city, and it's an easy, welcoming spot for beginners and casual social games. Booking is through Playtomic, with a Playskan listing too, and rates run roughly £30 to £40 per court an hour, about £8 to £10 each split four ways. Parking on site is limited, so if it's busy the bigger car park at Atherton station nearby is the fallback.

The courts

Four courts, all covered and floodlit. There's no confirmation yet on whether they're fully enclosed or open-sided covered courts, and no show court or spectator seating is mentioned in any source.
